Welcome to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board's short video outlining concurrent study eligibility. If you wish to start your practical legal training before you have completed your academic studies, you must obtain prior permission from VLAB to undertake concurrent study. This is done via the online portal.
Applications should be made a minimum of one month prior to commencement of practical legal training. It is only in exceptional circumstances that retrospective approval may be granted.
The admission rules state that to be considered for concurrent study, you must have no more than two elective subjects left to complete, neither of which can be Priestley 11 subjects.
Proof of completion of the academic Priestley 11 subjects is required. This is via a letter from your university, stating that you have no more than two elective subjects remaining to complete your degree. The letter must also include the remaining subjects and unit codes to be completed.
An applicant who is doing a combined degree still needs to have no more than two subjects remaining in total. Once all supporting documents have been uploaded and your submission has been approved, you will receive a letter from VLAB to hand to your PLT provider, and you may now commence practical legal training.
